Dragonfly
I saw this meme on Deb’s blog and thought I’d do it, rather than sit here and try to think of something to write with my lazy, blank mind. I actually like doing these… on occasion… and if the questions aren't the same ones seen ever single time. I like reading other people’s answers… so do it, and then leave me a link in my comments. I promise I won’t be lazy and I’ll leave a comment back! So. Here's almost everything you never wanted to know about me:

1. FIRST NAME?
Can’t say. It’s that whole silly anonymous thing. It’s seven letters long and I like it.

2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Not that I’m aware of, though my middle name is after my mother’s older sister.

3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY?
Here lately, I’ve been especially weepy while watching TV. Gray’s Anatomy? Tears. Extreme Home Makeover? More tears. Sappy commercials? No tears, because I mute All commercials. The last time I really boo-hoo’d… I’m embarrassed to say it was over a You-Tube video. Seriously. It makes me sound completely nuts but it was a video showing different scenes from Scotland with some Loreena McKennitt background music and I fell apart with wave after wave of homesickness (though, yes, Texas is my actual home). My obsession with this country knows no bounds (and no logic, whatsoever). I have never loved a “place” so much and for no readily distinguishable reason. I guess I’m just strange like that. Or maybe I have a past life I’m not aware of.

4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Actually, yes, I do. Very much so. It’s neat and loopy without being too flaunty. I often receive comments about my handwriting being “pretty”.

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCHMEAT?
Roast turkey, slightly dry. Also, a good honey ham. I prefer them fresh, like from the turkey at Thanksgiving and the honey ham at Easter.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Probably, as long as the other me had similar tendencies to disappear for inexplicable reasons and for indeterminable times.. or could handle being abandoned as such. I tend towards personal spelunking here and there and become mostly unreachable during those times. Otherwise, I’m all out there. The other me would also have to be able to handle brutal honesty. I know no other way. When I try to avoid the brutal honesty that’s on the tip of my tongue I become very disconnected, vague, and unresponsive. It just takes too much painful concentration to turn that part of me off.

7. DO YOU HAVE A JOURNAL?
A personal journal… not lately. I’ve had journals over the years from age, I don’t know, 10 and up, I guess. They’ve since been replaced with writing journals that occasionally harbor personal reflections but mostly plot ideas or anecdotes about things I see or hear. Currently, I’m dragging around 3 journals – one, which has copious notes on my current work in non-progress, one for another plot idea that has started to blossom, and then a third, which houses all of my ideas that would pertain more towards a YA (young adult) market. I like to keep those YA ideas separate and call that one “my silly journal”. I’m allowed to regress back to high school any time I open it. I’ve been really enjoying the YA journal here lately. Probably because I’m immersed in writing avoidance at the moment.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
No, thank goodness. Though the old adage about not snoring if you don’t have tonsils? Complete crap. I still sound like Paul Bunyan’s buzz saw if I’m super-tired.

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
Not for a million dollars. Seriously. Maybe for five million. Offer me ten million and I’d give it great thought. And then probably cry. And then do it, while praying I don’t pee my pants in the process.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
Blech… I’m not much one for cereal these days. I think I’m all cereal’d out from eating so much as a child or something. That being said, I occasionally enjoy a small cup of Honey Nut Cheerios (dry) as a snack.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
Nahhh… I’m too lazy. I kick them off and they hardly ever end up in the same place so any time I’m trying to leave the house, I spend at least 15 minutes searching for the other shoe (usually while snarking about how my shoes are always running off and disappearing).

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
Physically – not as strong as I’d like to be, but then also occasionally stronger than I expect to be. I’m much stronger emotionally, even though I get weepy during TV shows.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
I’ve said it more than a dozen times and I’ll keep saying it until Ben & Jerry bring it BACK – One Sweet Whirled – the ice cream that was sponsored by the Dave Matthews Band. Dang it, I miss my ice cream!! Here lately, Dreyer’s French Silk has been yummy.

14. SHOE SIZE?
7 or 7.5, depending on the shoe

15. FAVORITE COLOR?
Most shades of green. But also, I like blues. And burgundy. And coppery colors. If I had to pick Just. One. It’d be that green-blue you see in the Caribbean.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
My amazing level of procrastination.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
Of people gone from this life, my Mema. Of people still here, but acting like they’re gone from this life… my friend, C-Boy.

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU?
No. I want everyone to do it on their own blog and leave me a link in the comments!

19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING?
Black shorts. No shoes.

20. LAST THING YOU ATE?
Chicken Tortilla Soup, last night. Oh wait… there were twelve M&M’s after that. I know there were twelve because I have a strange thing about sorting my M&M’s by color before eating them, always by two’s, always starting with brown and ending with blue. If I have more than an even number, I’ll give the leftover one away. Mr. Clean finds great hilarity in my M&M OCD.

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
The sound of my typing and the fish tank burbling in the background (which means its filter needs to be cleaned).

22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE?
Blue-green

23. FAVORITE SMELLS?
That sage-like dusty smell of fall leaves, wood smoke in crisp winter air, horse, fresh hay, puppy breath, freshly washed hair, vanilla, gardenia flowers at night, honeysuckle, pumpkin pie, chocolate, fresh-baked anything, that corn dog/cotton candy/popcorn smell at fairs, the odd whiff of pipe tobacco, whiskey distilleries, cinnamon, newly-turned dirt, rain, roasting meat, pancakes/maple syrup/bacon in the morning, and of course, coffee. Also, I like the smell of skunk. It’s weird, I know. I have no explanation.

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
Mr. Clean. I called to ask him where the disc was for Microsoft Office because Word has decided it doesn’t want to check my spelling any more! (so forgive any mistakes)

25. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE YOU'RE ATTRACTED TO?
Their eyes… always the eyes. And then, their posture… the way they hold themselves. And then, their smile.

26. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU?
Well it didn’t get “sent” to me but yes, I like Deb very much. I love reading her blog every day (though I don’t always comment, because I am essentially a lazy ass).

27. FAVORITE DRINK?
*snort* The obvious answer - Coffee.

28. FAVORITE SPORT?
I don’t especially have a favorite. I can watch just about any sport for a certain length of time. I’ll tend to watch Equestrian sports longer than traditional sorts. On TV, the occasional football or soccer game. Baseball – only LIVE, never on TV (though I did watch the Astros on TV when they were in the World Series).

29. EYE COLOR?
Blue-green hazel. Mr. Clean is happy to point out that they are blue when I am happy, green when I’m either angry or in naughty mode, and grey when I am sad.

30. HAT SIZE?
Funny, but I actually know this – 7 ¾ (or is it 6 ¾ ?? Now, I can’t remember). I only know this because I endured lots of shopping in order to find the right size for various riding helmets and hats when showing horses. I have a small head, apparently… and a forgetful mind since I can’t remember if it’s 7 or 6. My current helmet just says “Small”.

31. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS?
No. At one point in high school, I wanted to wear those colored contacts but never could get past the idea of actually sticking something on my eyeball.

32. FAVORITE FOOD?
Anything well-prepared and tasty. I’m hard-pressed to find a “favorite”. I do love a good Chicken Marsala, but I’m also very partial to Rouladen with Spaetzle.

33. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDING?
Both. I tend to thoroughly enjoy having the bejeezus scared out of me, as long as I’m not alone (I still attempt to watch scary movies alone, but rarely finish them). I also like happy ending movies… but not if the ending is contrived. Sometimes, there just shouldn’t be a happy ending!

34. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
Hmmm, we’re seeing a trend today. It’s a striped tee in green, blue-green, pale blue, and white stripes with a thread of yellow here and there.

35. SUMMER OR WINTER?
Oh Lord, please give me Winter, SOON! And then make it last a while?

36. HUGS OR KISSES?
I have to choose? Oh all right, if I had to choose… Hugs. If done right, they can be almost like a kiss.

37. FAVORITE DESSERT?
Geez, what is it about food? I’m getting hungry now. I like complicated meldings of taste sensations. Black Forest Cake (home-made!). Cheesecake, but never plain. Tiramisu. Anything involving fudgey brownies and the flavor of espresso. I like deeper, intense flavors rather than lighter citrusy, fruity flavors in my dessert.

38. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING?
I just finished Boys That Bite by Mari Mancusi. I have The Eyre Affair in my journal bag but haven’t yet cracked it open. And I just ordered The Magnolia Bakery Cookbook and Requiem for the Devil by Jeri Smith-Redy from Amazon (with my $25 gift certificate from my Blogging 4 Books entry - I won!). I’ve been dying to read Requiem so I probably won’t start anything until it gets here.

39. WHAT'S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?
It’s nothing special… just the one Dell sent with the new computer.

40. WHAT DID YOU WATCH LAST NIGHT ON TV?
Extreme Home Makeover, Desperate Housewives, The Amazing Race, and then Fox News.

41. FAVORITE SOUNDS?
Wind – spring breezes, wind on fall leaves, cold gusts in winter (where you hear the tree limbs clacking), and wind chimes. Also, any sort of water sound – especially the ocean, waterfalls, and fast-moving creeks/rivers. Hmm… the sound of Doodlebug in his bed – singing when he should be sleeping, and the sounds of my spawnlings playing together. Anything musical. Drum beats that infiltrate your entire body. Rain. Thunder in the distance. The sound of galloping hooves and snorting horse breath. I especially like the sounds at the Renaissance Festival (it’s coming up soon). I like to sit down with a hot coffee, close my eyes, and just listen.

42. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES?
The Beatles. Let It Be continues to be an all-time favorite song, as well as While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

43. THE FURTHEST YOU'VE BEEN FROM HOME?
Literally – Scotland. Figuratively – In my mind, there are no boundaries.

44. WHAT'S YOUR SPECIAL TALENT?
Brutal honesty without batting an eyelash. Empathy. The ability to remain unbiased in tough situations. And, as much as I talk… I know how to really listen.

45. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
Houston, Texas

46. WHO SENT THIS TO YOU?
We’ve already been over this… wasn’t sent, picked up on Deb’s blog.

47. NEWEST THING YOU'VE TRIED?
To quit chewing gum. It’s not working well. I’m having a harder time with my gum addiction than with my cigarette addiction… though, without the gum, the cigarettes are starting to win.

48. ONE THING YOU'D CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF:
Again, been here already – my procrastination.

49. WHO DID YOU LAST SEND A LETTER OR CARD TO?
Well, that’s a secret and if I told you, I’d have to kill you. I can say it was sent…. No, never mind. I can’t say anything except that my BabySis knows and she’s not tellin’.

50. WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT IN THE WORLD IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT?
*snort* Scotland. No, really… if money was no object, I’d visit multiple places – Germany, Hungary, parts of Italy, perhaps parts of France, Turkey, some South Pacific islands, Ireland, England, and then Scotland.

I'm so glad you did this one! Regarding some of your answers...

#13 - what was in One Sweet Whirled? I never even saw that one!

#23 - I can't believe I forgot to put honeysuckle and coffee on my favorite smells list. They SO should've been there.

#33 - Even though I answered "happy endings", I agree with your opinion on them. I was one of the few women in the world who sneered relentlessly at the movie "Pretty Woman" because those two getting together in the end was soSO wrong, no matter how "romantic" it was supposed to be. It would never have worked.

(How weird that all three things I wanted to comment on specifically ended in a 3! Cue the Twilight Zone music.)

  2. Kelly Says:

Oh, Desperado is one of my all time favourite songs. I do love it so.

I read The Eyre Affair recently and had to get the next two books as soon as I could. Now I am waiting for the library to get me the 4th in the Thursday Next series. I think they are great books.
